I spent years in hospitality, most recently as a restaurant manager.
Anyone who's done it knows: there isn't a quiet hour in the day. The
POS goes down, staff call in sick at the last minute, table seven
goes sideways — and at some point you're standing in the kitchen at
half eleven at night thinking: what on earth happened today.
On that list, the website sat somewhere around fortieth. Not because
it didn't matter — because there was never time to deal with it, and
my website provider was no help either.
Something as small as uploading a new photo of the menu, or changing
a price? Fill in a form, wait three days. And when the site went
blank one Friday night and customers couldn't order any more, all I
got was an automated reply: Your ticket has been logged. We'll
be in touch within 48 hours. I needed help then — not in 48
hours.
It became clear I couldn't keep carrying this on the side, so I
started learning it myself. First for my own business, then for
people who asked, then properly.
